Work experience at New Rickstones Academy in Witham, England
From November 29th until December 5th we travelled to Witham in England, north of London. For the week being at school we chose different subjects, worked at the reception, took a film about the school and went to London. Many students came to us and gave us their names for facebook or their e-mail addresses and we are exchanging mails or msn now. It was a great time, but absolutely too short.

Work experience at New Rickstones Academy in Witham, England

From November 29th until December 5th we travelled to Witham in England, north of London. From Stansted Airport we went by bus to Victoria Station in London. An important difference between England and Germany is that they drive on the left side, so we had to take care when we crossed the street. In London we saw the Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, went into the Royal Museum for free, walked to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, went shopping and warming up into the House of Fraser.
In the rainy evening we were so lucky to be picked up by the school’s mini bus. The headmaster, Mr. Pulman, was so kind to drive us all the way to Witham. The house in which we lived was beautiful and it was right next to the school building. It had three bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, two toilets, a big garden and a garage. It had been the school keeper’s house and is already knocked down, because they are building a new school.
For the week being at school we chose different subjects. The students at New Rickstones Academy have got a lot of interesting subjects and the lessons lasted for one hour. Subjects were Performing Art, Motor-Biking, Cooking, English, Humanities etc. We liked MIC most where we learned to ride a real motor bike. We were allowed to go from class to class just as we liked. Each of us helped in the reception for one day. Every lunch hour we had a free meal in the cafeteria. Two of us took a movie and we had to choose objects to take photos of  to show what is different between Wilma and NRA. One evening we were invited to bowling by the parent union which we were very grateful for. On Tuesday evening we were invited by the NRA to the famous musical “The Phantom of the Opera“ at Haymarket and visited a funfair around the corner on Leicester Square in London. On Friday at school we taught some German to four people of the sixth form (Oberstufe) who may come to Germany in February. After teaching German Sophie, Anna and Aileen cut the movie they had taken over the week. In the afternoon we went into the town centre of Witham and bought some souvenirs. On Saturday we woke up at 4 am and were taken to Stansted Airport by taxi to fly back to Berlin.

We think the trip to England was very exciting and funny, but one week was definitely too short to learn English. The pupils and the teachers were very kind and always helpful. Many students came to us and gave us their names for facebook or their e-mail addresses and we are exchanging mails or msn now. The teachers were so friendly to the students and never complaining about us suddenly coming into their classes. We adored this learning environment and would like to go back to Witham again. We want to thank the headmasters Mr. Pullman and Mr. Gillard very much for making the stay possible for us and a big Thank you! to Tony who took care of us every day and was a brilliant chief in our house and a super safe motor bike teacher.
